Products, Technologies, and Services at AACC/Clinical Lab Expo 2012
2012-10-01
This year's meeting, conference, and expo will showcase thousands of products, services, and technologies to help fulfill every clinical-laboratory need.
Shopping for parts, components, services, and new technologies at the Clinical Lab Expo next week? You're in luck. Here's just a tiny sampling of what will be on display there.
Isolation Miniature Valves Solenoid-operated valves use a flexible diaphragm to isolate the solenoid actuation mechanism from the fluid path. When the valve is energized, the solenoid retracts an armature that is attached to a flexible diaphragm. In a normally closed valve, this raises the diaphragm, allowing fluid to flow between the inlet and outlet ports.
The 038T range of Mini-Valves are normally closed isolation valves that fill a specific need for controlling extremely low flow rates (Cv values of 0.006 and 0.011) with a valve that is compact and has very low power consumption.
Isolation Mini-Valves are available with choices in operating voltage (12 V dc or 24 V dc), configuration (side or bottom ¼-28 UNF threaded ports), and orifice size (0.032- or 0.054-in.).
To ensure an inert fluid path, fluid is in contact with only two components: the valve body and the flexible diaphragm. Valve bodies are available in either PEEK or PPS. Diaphragms are manufactured from PTFE, EPDM, or FFKM. This ensures a non-metallic, corrosion-resistant path.

High-Sensitivity Troponin T Control
Cardiac troponins are widely used in the detection of myocardial infarction (MI) with even small elevations in the levels of cardiac troponin indicating damage to the heart and possible MI.
Consequently, both the European Society of Cardiology and the American College of Cardiology recommend the use of a highly sensitive troponin assay with better-than-average precision (less than 10% CV) at the 99th percentile of the reference range.
Offering target values sufficiently close to the 99th percentile of the reference range (14 ng/L),
Acusera High Sensitivity Troponin T Control provides laboratories with the ability to more accurately monitor and assess the performance of their hsTnT assays.
The ultra-low Troponin T levels found in the control are significantly lower than those found in other manufacturers’ QC materials. Target values for the control are generally around 16.5 ng/l (range 12.4 – 20.6 ng/l) and are closest to the 14 ng/ml cutoff.
The product has a shelf life of up to four years, meaning the same lot of control material can be used for a longer time, thereby reducing the problems associated with lot crossovers.
An application (app) for blood-gas evaluation is available for iPhone/iPad, Android, and Windows Phone devices. The app offers guidance for the evaluation of arterial oxygen status based on comprehensive blood-gas analysis (including oximetry) and analysis of a closely related metabolic parameter, lactate. Users can add and edit their own reference intervals as well as notes for individual parameters.
In addition, the app provides a description of the parameters available on the company’s blood-gas analyzers, including blood-gas and acid-base parameters as well as metabolic parameters and electrolytes. Guides for evaluating these are available as well. Other features include search, import and export of user-defined notes and reference intervals via iTunes (iPhone/iPad only), and zoom for images.
The app supports the following languages: English, Danish, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish. It opens in the default language chosen on the user’s device.
